The 2016 National Elections is on Monday and I decided to spend some quality time finalizing the names to whom I will give my vote.

This will be the second time I will participate in the national elections, and boy, am I pumped. A lot of people have become politically active these past few months, with the televised debates and all. Over-all, I am happy the Filipino people are showing great concern for the country’s future. There’s been a lot of bad, ugly things happening and we all need to give our best efforts in correcting them, because just complaining about them would get us nowhere.
That said, a lot of relationships are being tested because of the election. A lot of people have made it personal for some reason. I guess that just goes to show how passionate Filipinos can get, when they care.
I, for one, have been very vocal and consistent in my support for Senator Miriam Defensor – Santiago. Her track record, her academic background and her gravitas with the millenials, not to mention the respect she has carved for herself internationally, are more than enough reason for me to consider her my president. I do acknowledge the fact that she had just gotten over cancer, and is in fact has had few media respresentation, as compared to the other four candidates, but then for me, this does not matter. MDS is alive and willing and able and most importantly, qualified to lead the country, in all aspects. I will stand by my vote for her no matter what.
And to be honest, should she lose, it’s the country that loses more, and that would be a sad shame.
My vice presidential vote, which I have withheld until now, will be Leni Robredo. I’ve watched her handle herself as the sole rose among the thorns during the vice-presidential debate, and what I saw is enough for me to believe that she’d be the best in the job. Her experience as a lawyer for the poor and as a single mother (since her husband, the late Jesse Robredo, passed away four years ago) would, I hope, help her become the mother of the country that badly needs some mothering.
I spent the whole of last night and most of this morning finalizing the twelve names I will vote for as senators. From the original fifty candidates, I managed to choose 22 picks (with only two sure votes) and read up on them individually. Some are old familiar names, some I have voted for last time, while others are part of the fresh crop. I am hoping that they would all uphold their promises and work on their platforms should they take office.

In local elections, the incumbent congressman for the 2nd district (which Barangay Parang is part of) Miro Quimbo is running unopposed so… For the rest of the officials, I’ll be voting straight for Team Marcy, that is: Marcy Teodoro for mayor, Doc Marion Andres for vice-mayor and the following for Counselors.

I have posted this here to keep myself accountable for my vote. It feels like we are at the pinnacle of a great change right now, and I’m part of history. I’m putting my trust on these leaders in hopes that they too are aware of just how incredible the power they will get can help our country to be better.
