As I get older, I’m starting to see sadness — or any other form of negativity or negative feeling — as a very beautiful part of life that we may not want, but actually need, because without it, the happy, positive parts of life wouldn’t get to exist.
Think about it: we only know the feeling of being empty because we’ve been experience being full. We know the great feeling brought on by acceptance and love because we know the gut-wrenching feeling caused by rejection and hate. We know how great laughing is because we’ve cried our eyes out before.
In the end, it’s okay to be sad, to be down, to be empty. It gives us time to find a way to be happy again, push ourselves back up, and fill our lives with what will make us grow. Be better.
